Program Participation Policy

Second Star Youth Theatre programs involve collaborative rehearsal and performance processes. The following guidelines outline expectations for participation and help ensure that productions run safely, respectfully and successfully for all participants.

These guidelines apply to all Second Star Youth Theatre programs, including workshops, auditions, rehearsals and performances.

1. Program Content

Second Star Youth Theatre produces a variety of musical theatre productions covering a range of themes, topics and historical settings.

Our programs may include:

  • youth adaptations of musical theatre productions

  • Junior or School Editions of licensed works

  • Teen Editions

  • full-length productions where appropriate.

While these versions are designed for younger performers, some productions may contain themes, language or subject matter that reflect the context of the original work. Parents and guardians are encouraged to conduct their own research into each production to determine whether the content is appropriate for their child prior to registration. Information about each program will be provided in audition or registration materials, and families are welcome to contact us with any questions before committing to participate.

Participation in a program indicates acceptance of the production and its content. Withdrawal from a program due to concerns about show content does not constitute grounds for a refund and will be subject to the Second Star Youth Theatre Refund & Cancellation Policy.

2. Participation in Production Material

Participation in Second Star Youth Theatre programs involves performing the material required for the selected production, including dialogue, songs, choreography and staging. If a participant has concerns about particular elements of the material, they are encouraged to discuss these with the creative team as early as possible. Reasonable adjustments may be considered where appropriate; however, the overall structure and integrity of the production cannot be altered to accommodate individual preferences.

Participants who choose not to perform required material may be reassigned within the production or may choose to withdraw from the program. Withdrawal for this reason does not constitute grounds for a refund and will be subject to the Second Star Youth Theatre Refund & Cancellation Policy.

3. Attendance and Rehearsal Commitment

Second Star Youth Theatre productions are collaborative and rehearsal time is essential to ensure the safety and success of the performance.

Participants are expected to attend all scheduled rehearsals and to arrive prepared to engage fully in the rehearsal process. If a participant misses rehearsals or is unable to learn required material, the creative team may make adjustments to casting, staging or performance participation where necessary to maintain the integrity and safety of the production.

While every effort will be made to support participants in remaining involved, participation in the final performance cannot be guaranteed if rehearsal attendance is insufficient.

4. Audition and Casting Process

Where auditions are required for a program, participants will be assessed based on a variety of factors relevant to the production. This may include performance ability, suitability for specific roles, ensemble balance and the overall needs of the show.

Casting decisions are made by the creative team and are final. Participants are welcome to request general feedback on their audition for personal development; however, discussions regarding other performers, comparisons between auditions, or requests for casting changes will not be entertained.

Second Star Youth Theatre values ensemble collaboration and positive learning experiences, and participants are encouraged to approach auditions with openness and a willingness to contribute to the production in any role.
