Welcome to Second Star Youth Theatre
Second Star Youth Theatre is built on the philosophy that young people are capable of incredible things; they just need the chance to try! Powered by this belief, and our four pillars of Care, Courage, Creativity and Community, we offer engaging school holiday musical theatre workshops, in which young artists come together to rehearse and perform an entire musical in just one week.
To find out more about our pillars, who we are, and why we do what we do, check out About Us.
About the Show
America's darkest family comes to life in this original musical about love, family, honesty, and growing up. A comical feast that embraces the wackiness in every family, The Addams Family tells the story of every father’s nightmare: Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family - a man her parents have never met.

And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before - keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. Featuring the iconic characters with a brand new storyline and original music, The Addams Family: young@part is the perfect musical to ring in the spooky season, and celebrate the kooky in all of us.

Auditions
All young performers aged 10-18 (as at 3 October 2026) are invited to audition. All who audition will be cast in the show!
The in-person audition workshop will be held on the afternoon of Sunday 13 September. Any performers unable to attend in-person are welcome to submit video auditions.
What is an Audition Workshop?
At Second Star Youth Theatre, we want every performer to have equal opportunity to showcase what makes them amazing! To help achieve this, we run auditions as a workshop using the iTheatrics method. The iTheatrics method was developed specifically for youth performers and involves a large group of auditionees all attending a workshop together in which they will learn material from the show. Auditionees then have the opportunity to perform what they’ve learnt for our creative team, and their fellow cast mates.
While showcasing strong singers, skilled dancers and experienced actors, this method of audition also celebrates other invaluable skills such as connecting with others, responding to direction and learning material quickly. Another major bonus is that auditionees don’t have to prepare a thing! All they have to do is come along, be themselves, and give everything a go.
Register your Audition
Audition registrations are open now and spaces are filled on a first come, first served basis so we recommend getting in quick! You can register your audition at the button below.
There is no fee to register, but payment of participation fees will be due in full prior to audition day. After registering, participants will be emailed an invoice.
After Auditions
Casting decisions will be communicated to participants as soon as possible after auditions. It is then an expectation that performers in lead and featured roles spend time learning dialogue and lyrics in the weeks leading up to the intensive rehearsals. All necessary learning materials, i.e. scripts and rehearsal and accompaniment tracks, will be made available to them.
I'm not available for Auditions
If your performer is unavailable for the in-person audition workshop, they can still be involved! Make a note of this on your registration form and we will be in touch with instructions for how to submit a video audition.
Characters
Gomez Addams
A suave man of Spanish descent who adores his wife and children and takes immense pride in being an Addams. Gomez finds himself trapped between his daughter and his wife, being forced to hide Wednesday’s big secret from Morticia. He has great comedic timing and is a strong dancer. Spanish accent is a plus!
Morticia Addams
The beautiful and mysterious head of the Addams family who believes strongly in family tradition. Morticia is unnerved thinking that Gomez is hiding something from her. She is confident and sassy with a side of dry wit. She is a strong mover (tango skills a plus!)
Wednesday Addams
Gothic big sister Wednesday who has her father’s heart and her mother’s sensibility falls in love with a “normal” boy who she brings home to meet the family. Wednesday is trying to balance her relationships with her “strange” family with that of her new love and his “normal” family. Wednesday showcases compassion, a bit of stubbornness and strong will. She has a strong belt.
Pugsley Addams
The youngest of the Addams Family, Pugsley loves to be tortured by his big sister. He is lost trying to figure out his place now that she has a new boyfriend and family dynamics are changing. Pugsley is charming and funny, ideally with an unchanged singing voice.
Uncle Fester
Serving as the narrator of the show, Uncle Fester is lovable, childish, enthusiastic and highly incorrigible. Fester has great comedic timing and a tenor voice.
Grandma
Fun, quirky and feisty, Grandma always has a trick up her sleeve. Grandma is wise, wacky and sometimes a bit crass. She has great comedic timing and physicality.
Lurch
A man of few words, Lurch is the Addams Family butler. His unmistakable commanding presence is accented by grunts, moans and deliberate movement. Must have great non-verbal story-telling abilities (think: facial expressions and sound). Lurch typically has a rich bass voice.
Lucas Beinecke
The hopeful romantic and son of Alice & Mal, typical "boy-next-door" Lucas has fallen in love with Wednesday and intends to marry her. He is optimistic and hopeful yet struggles to find the balance between his "normal" family and the macabre Addams. Strong singer and scene partner.
Mal Beinecke
The uptight father of Lucas and cold-shouldered husband to Alice, cynical Mal meets the Addams with skepticism. He finds the Addams to be too bizarre for his liking and cannot fathom being related to them.
Alice Beinecke
Lucas’s mother and Mal’s wife, Alice is strongly devoted to her family. She presents herself as reserved and collected (even when speaking in rhyme) until she learns to unleash her wild side at dinner with the Addams. She is a strong comedic actress with a strong belt.
The Ancestors
The Addams ancestors from various eras serve as the chorus for the show and help bring the story to life. They will be featured both singing and dancing throughout the entire show (once relapsed from the family crypt!). There are feature opportunities for ensemble members.
Note: Performers of all genders may be considered for all roles regardless of the original gender representation of the character. Character names and pronouns used in the script will not be changed. If a performer is not comfortable portraying a role outside of their gender identity, please inform the creative team prior to auditions.
