
Code of Conduct
Second Star Youth Theatre is committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where all participants can learn, perform and collaborate positively. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations for behaviour during auditions, rehearsals, performances and all activities associated with Second Star Youth Theatre programs.
All participants, parents/guardians, staff, volunteers and visitors are expected to uphold these standards.
Second Star Youth Theatre is guided by our core pillars of Care, Courage, Creativity and Community. These values shape how we rehearse, perform and collaborate together. This Code of Conduct reflects these principles and helps ensure that our programs remain safe, inclusive and supportive for everyone involved.
1. Respect and Inclusion
All members of the Second Star Youth Theatre community are expected to treat others with respect, kindness and consideration.
Participants must:

treat fellow performers, staff and volunteers respectfully

support an inclusive and welcoming environment
-
respect cultural, religious and gender diversity
-
contribute positively to the rehearsal and performance environment.
Discrimination, harassment or exclusionary behaviour will not be tolerated.
2. Bullying and Harassment
Second Star Youth Theatre has zero tolerance for bullying.
Bullying includes behaviour that intimidates, humiliates, threatens or harms another participant.
This may include:

verbal abuse
-
social exclusion
-
online harassment
-
physical intimidation.
Participants found engaging in bullying behaviour may face consequences including removal from an activity or dismissal from the program without refund.

3. Participation and Engagement
Second Star Youth Theatre programs are collaborative and intensive.
Participants are expected to:

participate actively in rehearsals and activities
-
follow instructions from members of the creative team
-
make a genuine effort to learn material and contribute to the production
-
respect rehearsal schedules and time commitments.
Repeated refusal to engage or disruptive behaviour may result in discussions with parents/guardians and possible removal from activities.
4. Safety and Responsible Behaviour
Participants must follow safety instructions and behave in ways that protect themselves and others.
Participants must:

follow venue rules and safety requirements
-
use equipment and stage areas responsibly
-
avoid behaviour that may place themselves or others at risk.
Unsafe behaviour may result in immediate removal from an activity.
5. Respect for Creative Work
Second Star Youth Theatre productions rely on collaboration and respect for creative processes.
Participants are expected to:

respect the work of fellow performers and creative team members
-
respect choreography, staging and rehearsal instructions
-
support a positive rehearsal environment.
6. Digital and Social Media Behaviour
Participants should use digital platforms responsibly.
Participants must not:
-
post harmful or disrespectful content about other participants or staff
-
share private rehearsal material without permission
-
engage in online behaviour that may harm the reputation or wellbeing of others involved in the program.
Communication regarding programs should occur through parents/guardians via official channels.
7. Backstage and Performance Conduct
During performances and backstage activities, participants must:

follow directions from the creative team and stage management
-
respect backstage safety procedures
-
remain considerate of fellow performers preparing for performance.
Backstage areas are restricted to performers and authorised personnel only.
8. Respect for Property and Venues
Participants must respect rehearsal and performance venues.
Participants must:
-
care for costumes, props and equipment
-
avoid damaging venue property
-
follow venue rules and staff instructions.
9. Parent and Guardian Expectations
Parents and guardians are expected to:
-
communicate respectfully with staff and volunteers
-
support the values and expectations outlined in this Code of Conduct
-
ensure participants arrive prepared and on time
-
follow venue rules and program procedures.
10. Breaches of the Code of Conduct
Failure to follow this Code of Conduct may result in consequences including:
-
verbal warnings
-
discussion with parents/guardians
-
temporary removal from an activity
-
dismissal from the program.
Serious breaches that compromise safety or wellbeing may result in immediate removal from the program without refund.
11. Commitment to a Positive Environment
Second Star Youth Theatre aims to foster a supportive community where participants can grow as performers and individuals. All members of the community share responsibility for maintaining a safe, respectful and positive environment.
By participating in Second Star Youth Theatre programs, participants and families agree to uphold the values of Care, Courage, Creativity and Community that underpin our work.
